The Alliance Fund presented its 2007-08 grant awards to 15 community projects serving the LGBT community. A total of $40,000 was awarded.

The Alliance Fund was formed in 1999, when the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona was awarded a two-year, $100,000 challenge grant from the National Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership.  The Fund was established to expand funding opportunities and resources for LGBT organizations in Tucson and rural southern Arizona (Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties) and to create linkages with straight allies.  In the past 6 years, the Fund has made 72 grants totaling nearly $360,000.

The LGBT&S Alliance Fund makes grants in five areas:

  1. Parent-Child Issues: Increasing support for LGBT individuals and their parents/families
  2. Human Services Issues: Improving health care, substance abuse treatment, and social services
  3. Political Advocacy & Involvement: Educating legislators and working for changes that promote civil rights for all. 
  4. Education Issues: Educating both the larger community and the LGBT community to promote acceptance, health and well-being. 
  5. LGBT Community Infrastructure: Giving organizations the tools they need to be effective
