The Alliance Fund was formed in 1999, when the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona was awarded a two-year, $100,000 challenge grant from the National Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership. The Fund was established to expand funding opportunities and resources for LGBT organizations in Tucson and rural southern Arizona (Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties) and to create linkages with straight allies. In the past 9 years, the Fund has made 90 grants totaling over $405,000.

The Alliance Fund's mission is to develop and enhance resources that benefit the LGBT&S community in Southern Arizona through philanthropy, endowment building, and collaboration with straight allies and friends.

We envision a diverse and caring Southern Arizona community whose philanthropy meets the need of all of its members.

The LGBT&S Alliance Fund makes grants in five areas:
- Parent-Child Issues: Increasing support for LGBT individuals and their parents/families
- Human Services Issues: Improving health care, substance abuse treatment, and social services
- Political Advocacy & Involvement: Educating legislators and working for changes that promote civil rights for all.
- Education Issues: Educating both the larger community and the LGBT community to promote acceptance, health and well-being.
- LGBT Community Infrastructure: Giving organizations the tools they need to be effective
